Course Description:
New launch mid-April 2026 / Model European Union Mainz 2026 open for application
This online class on decision-making in the European Union gives a comprehensive introduction into EU institutions and decision-making. The next class will start mid-April 2026. Students can study the material (videos, readings, quizzes, etc.) at their own pace, allowing for high flexibility. There will be online support. The contents include: EU Democracy; the European Commission; the European Parliament; the Council of the European Union and Decision-Making in the EU. Those participants who have successfully completed the online class will be invited to apply for the simulation “Model European Union Mainz” (MEUM) which takes place late June 2026 at University Mainz campus. The class is suitable for (advanced) undergraduate or postgraduate students of Political Science, International Relations, European Studies, Communication Studies, Law, or a related subject. It is also possible to do just the online class without participating in the on-site simulation. Participating in the simulation without having completed the class first is generally not recommended (unless prior knowledge of EU decision-making can be demonstrated). Please note that University of Mainz unfortunately cannot provide funding for travel or housing costs in connection with the simulation. If you are interested in joining the class and/or participating in the simulation, please contact Laura Ulrich via e-mail (Laulrich@uni-mainz.de). For enrolment into the online class, please provide your full name, institution (home University), e-mail address, and date of birth.
