Course Description:

The University of Latvia invites doctoral students to join the course "Human Resource Management, Business Strategy and Innovation" at the FORTHEM Digital Academy!

Guiding you through the course is Katri Vintiša - a professional in the field of human resource management and organizational development, with experience in designing and implementing learning programs, competency frameworks, and digital transformation initiatives. Her work focuses on aligning people management practices with business strategy, fostering future-ready skills, and supporting organizations in navigating change and innovation.

This course explores the current and emerging trends in human resource management and their impact on business strategy and organizational development. It is designed as a practical and interactive learning experience, combining short live sessions with guided self-study materials. Each session will introduce key concepts, real-world examples, and discussion points, encouraging participants to reflect on how human resources (HR) practices are evolving in response to technological, social, and economic changes.

The course covers topics such as:

  • the impact of artificial intelligence and digitalization on HR,
  • the shift towards skills-based organizations,
  • employee experience and well-being,
  • the future of work and flexible working models,
  • evolving leadership practices,
  • the strategic role of HR in driving innovation.

Participants will gain a broader understanding of how HR contributes to organizational success and how to apply modern HR approaches in different contexts.

The course consists of:

  • 6 online sessions (45 minutes each),
  • additional reading and self-study materials,
  • short reflection or discussion tasks,
  • a final assessment consisting of a case study analysis (written responses) and a short knowledge test,

Each session focuses on one key topic and builds a holistic understanding of modern HR practices.

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • understand key trends shaping the future of HR,
  • be able to explain the role of HR in business strategy and innovation,
  • identify opportunities for applying modern HR practices,
  • reflect on the impact of digitalization and AI in people management.

Additional information:
At the University of Latvia, this course is delivered by the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences to doctoral students enrolled in the Human Factors, Occupational Safety and Health programme.

This 3 ECTS synchronous course will be delivered entirely online (materials available in the FORTHEM Digital academy and live sessions in Teams).
